Ethical oversight policy

Pasajes de pensamiento contemporáneo is a publication of the Universitat de València, committed to promoting ethical conduct by adhering to the principles outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in its Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors (http://publicationethics.org).

The Pasajes team considers it essential that all parties involved in the editorial process -editorial team, reviewers, and authors- are familiar with and accept the principles outlined in this code, with particular attention to the following commitments:

THE EDITORIAL TEAM COMMITS TO:

  • Maintaining the quality of the publication through the efforts of the editorial board and the guidance of the scientific committee, composed of nationally and internationally recognized specialists. Authors' opinions will also be taken into account.
  • Respecting the confidentiality of submitted articles. Access to the files will be restricted to the editorial board and anonymous reviewers. Reviewers will receive a document with the authors' information removed or edited to prevent direct identification.
  • Protecting intellectual property.
  • Preventing academic misconduct. Any instance of plagiarism will lead to the immediate rejection of the article, whether it involves unattributed works of other authors or previously published articles by the same author. However, an exception may be made for articles previously published in another language by the same author, provided the translation offers significant value and includes a reference to the original version. If plagiarism is discovered post-publication, the article will be promptly retracted.
  • Ensuring evaluations are free from bias related to gender, race, religion, geographic origin, nationality, ethnicity, or political views of the authors. Articles will be assessed based on their field of knowledge and the scientific quality of the submission.
  • Taking responsibility for the decision to publish or not, based on the evaluations of two external reviewers. In cases of significant discrepancies between the two evaluations, a third evaluation will be conducted. The same criteria will be applied to all articles, focusing on originality, relevance, and clarity of the proposal.

AUTHORS SHOULD ADHERE TO THE FOLLOWING PRINCIPLES:

  • Authorship: Authors submitting an article to Pasajes must provide original documents based on their own research. Articles that are under simultaneous review by other journals or books, or those presenting research already published in the same language elsewhere (in whole or in part), are not eligible for review. Data submitted to the journal will be used exclusively for editorial purposes.
  • Responsibility: The author who submits an article to Pasajes assumes full responsibility for providing all identifying information (name, surname, country, affiliation, ORCID, email) and for the content of the manuscript.
  • Plagiarism and originality: the authors are committed to submitting original articles and to properly citing all corresponding bibliographic sources.
  • Conflict of interest: Authors must explicitly declare that there is no conflict of interest in the results of the research. If the authors are affiliated with a project or if their research is funded, they must indicate the sources of funding and/or the project under which the article is framed.
  • Correction of errors in published articles: If authors identify errors in their published articles, they should contact the editorial board to facilitate corrections, where possible.

REVIEWERS:

  • Articles are subjected to an anonymous peer review process. Two reviewers will advise the editorial team on the scientific quality of the articles.
  • Reviewers commit to providing an objective and impartial evaluation. Acceptance or rejection is based solely on the relevance of the work, its originality, interest, and adherence to the editorial and content guidelines.
  • Reviewers agree to meet the established deadlines (if this is not possible, they must notify the journal in advance).
  • Reviewers may not share, distribute, or use the information from the reviewed articles without the appropriate permission from the journal's management and/or the authors.
  • Data collected from both registered and unregistered users of this journal are within the scope of standard operations for peer-reviewed journals.
  • This includes information used to facilitate communication for the editorial process, inform readers about authorship and editing, collect aggregated data on reader behaviour, and monitors the geopolitical and social elements of academic communication.
  • The journal's editorial team uses this information to guide their publishing work and improve the journal. Data that contribute to the development of this publishing platform may be shared with its developer, Public Knowledge Project (PKP), in an anonymous and aggregated form, with appropriate exceptions such as article metrics.
  • The journal or PKP will not sell this data or use it for purposes other than those stated here.
  • Authors published in this journal are responsible for the data contained in the research presented.
  • The journal's editorial team strives to comply with data privacy standards, including the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) provisions for "data subject rights," which include (a) breach notification; (b) right of access; (c) right to be forgotten; (d) data portability; and (e) privacy by design. The GDPR also recognizes the "public interest in data availability," which is particularly relevant to those involved in maintaining, with the utmost integrity, the public record of academic publications.
